Systematic border checks: improving the performance of our border guards? Case study of experienced effects by the Romanian border guards

The study intends to get an in-depth insight of the effects that systematic border checking has had on the operational level of border guarding. Through a comparative case study of two Romanian Border Crossing Points, the link between formalization of border practices and the final operational performance is assessed by observing the discretionary space, the targeting practices and the job satisfaction of the border guards as defining features of their job performance
